Accessibility
Studying for the MCAT is hard enough. Using the thing you study with should not be.
The standard we build to
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and by Section 508 — across this site and the student portal.
What we have checked
On every public page — the home page, pricing, the course pages, questions, checkout, sign-in and these policy pages:
- Tested against the WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules with axe. No failures outstanding.
- Every text and interface color measured for contrast, in both the light and dark themes, against the 4.5:1 requirement.
- Every button and link measured on a phone. They are at least 44 × 44 pixels, which is what a fingertip needs, except for links written into the middle of a sentence.
- A “Skip to main content” link, so a keyboard reaches the page without the menu first.
- A visible focus ring on anything you can tab to.
- Headings, landmarks and form labels written for screen readers.
- Readable down to a 320-pixel screen and at 200% zoom, with no sideways scrolling.
- Motion reduced automatically when your device asks for that.
What is not done yet
Being straight about the gaps is more useful than claiming there are none.
- Captions. Lecture videos carry captions where our transcription has produced them. Not every video has them yet, and the ones that exist are machine-generated and not hand-corrected. If a video you need is missing captions, tell us and we will prioritize it.
- The signed-in portal. The measurements above cover the public pages. The dashboard, video library, flashcards and progress screens follow the same design and the same colors, but they have not yet been through the same page-by-page audit.
- The video player. It is our own, built for a phone. Its keyboard and screen-reader behavior has had less scrutiny than the rest of the site.
- Screen-reader testing. Our checks are automated plus hands-on keyboard testing. We have not yet sat down with VoiceOver, NVDA and JAWS end to end.
- Payment. Card details are collected by Stripe on Stripe's own pages, so that step follows their accessibility work rather than ours.
If something is in your way
Email contact@mydashacademy.com and say what you were trying to do, what happened, and what you use to browse — a screen reader, keyboard only, magnification, whatever it is. We aim to reply within two business days and to tell you either that it is fixed or when it will be.
If something here is blocking you right now, say so and we will get you the material another way while we fix it. Nobody should lose study time waiting on us.
Accommodations for the exam itself
Testing accommodations on the MCAT are granted by the AAMC, not by us, and are applied for separately. If you have them, or are applying for them, tell your coach — we will plan around the timing you will actually get.
